Philosophy and 20th Century Classical Music

January 24 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

In this session, our Equality and Diversity Officer Salah Hamed will
outline the ideas behind serialism, atonal music, minimalism and post-minimalism. We will discuss and listen to composers like Schoenberg, Stockhausen, John Cage, Steve Reich, and Michael Gordon and think about why they are all classified as classical music.

By taking a look at how these musical ideas developed throughout the 20th century, we’ll try to think of the links between radical new ideas in music and what that can do to philosophy.

This session will be chaired by President Eleesha Kyriazis.

We hope to see you all there!
