Positionlessness and the disavowal of theses

February 16 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Our speaker for this Friday session is Josh Smith. Josh is a doctoral researcher in philosophy as part of the school of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies (PPL) at UEA. His research specialism is the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, with particular emphasis on the parallels between his work and the philosophical contributions of Buddhist writers Рparticularly the Madhyamaka school founded by Nagarjuna.

In this presentation, Josh will discuss the ‘positionless’ aspect of his research and the tensions that arise between this positionless position and the standard methodology of philosophy.

The presentation will last between 30-40 minutes, to be followed by a discussion chaired by secretary Jake Austin.

As with all our Friday events, the discussion will be followed by a social in the SU bar.

All are welcome and we hope to see you there.
