Why Plato’s ‘Republic’ would be just

January 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Our first external speaker of the spring semester will once again be doctoral researcher Karyn Walker. Many of you will have encountered Karyn at our previous events or through her undergraduate teaching and will be somewhat familiar with her specialism in the philosophical works of Plato.

In this session, Karyn will be presenting her original work in defence of Plato’s Republic, defending his kalipolis from the many detractors it has faced throughout the history of philosophy. The session will begin with a presentation lasting between 30-40 minutes, which will then lead into a discussion.

The session will by chaired by Philosophy Society’s Academic Officer: Benjamin Carpenter.

All are welcome to attend this event, and the discussion will be followed by a group trip to the Student Union Bar – so please do come along and join us.

We hope to see you there.
